Teaching –Learning Process and Collaborative Programmes abroad

Quantum Global Campus is renowned for upgrading the knowledge of its students and faculty through learned guest lectures. The recent in this chain was the lecture delivered by Dr. Vijendra K. Agarw, Dean-College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Minnesota State University, Mankato, M.N 56001.
Dr. Agarwal apprised about its teaching and learning process of his university and offered a 2+2 opportunity to B.Tech Q-mates i.e. after completion of second year at Quantum they can move to Minnesota State University for earning the B.Tech degree.As his arrival in Quantum, Dr. Agarwal was warmly greeted by the Director General Prof. Dr. S.C. Handa, who later introduced him to the faculty and students in the seminar hall. 
Dr. Agarwal introduced Minnesota State University of the USA, by telling that the college houses 10 academic departments in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)disciplines.He was glad to offer a 2+2 program of his university, where it offers a blended Mechanical/Electrical general Engineering degree in a project based learning environment to the students who have completed the first two year at an institution in India.
He started his lecture by giving a teaching learning process of his university which focus on such interesting questions as
  • What is critical? Teaching or learning.
  • How do we teach?
  • How do we learn?
  • Do students need to know everything?
He discussed these questions in a very interesting manner. Then he displayed survey on education and research between china and US, that emphasized how china is advancing in research and innovation in comparison to US.In addition to this he discussed the problem pertaining to undergraduate retentions in STEM and suggested these measures to overcome this problem.
  • First year seminars (critical topics)
  • Learning communities (group discussion)
  • Service learning (community based)
  • Capstone experience (project Based)
  • Undergraduate research (UR) 
He told the reason of choosing only Quantum Global Campus was its category of Master’s granting pragmatic approach of teaching and learning process which is highly beneficial to the students.
 At last he proposed 2+2 collaboration plan in B.Tech with initial 2 years undergraduate course in Quantum Global Campus and remaining 2 years in Minnesota State University. He also informed that a 50% concession in tuition fee will be granted to such students i.e. 7500$ in place of 15000$. 
In the end, the Director General Prof. Dr. S.C. Handa thanked Dr. Agarwal greatly and assured him that Quantum will avail the 2+2 offer delightfully.

Guest Lecture on – Planning for future

 Quantum Global campus is repeatedly name as best engineering colleges in Uttarakhand,  renowned for upgrading the knowledge of its students and faculty through learned guest lectures. The recent in this chain was the lecture delivered by Mr. Aman Joshi.
Mr. Joshi delivered his lecture on“planning for future”. As his arrival in Quantum , Mr. Joshi  was warmly greeted by the Director General Prof. Dr. S.C. Handa , who later introduced him to the faculty and students in the seminar hall.
Mr. Joshi started his lecture by giving a quote:“You can’t live a positive life with a negative mind.” He introduced 2-P(P-planning and P-Present, which would be same). He asked such interesting questions as
  • How many people are doing the same job which they wanted to do?
  • Are you satisfied with what you had planned for yourself?
  • Who can think most better about you?
He discussed these questions in a very interesting manner and got the answers by audience. On the basis of answers given by students he concludes that only 2-3% people are doing the same job and they are satisfied. Then he discussed the reason and he suggested these to get benefits for future planning.
  • The main thing is keeping the main thing.
  • Trust yourself.
  • Time management.
  • Target your targets.
  • It’s never a question of “can you”, but “will you?”.
  • Stop asking” why am I still stuck in this situation?”.
  • Ask: “what do I need to learn from this situation?”.
In the end, the Director General Prof. Dr. S.C. Handa thanked Mr. Aman Joshi.

Fresher’s Party for B.Tech – 1st Year students

Fresher’s Party for 1st year was held on 7.9.2013. It was conducted in ‘Shyamji Auditorium’ where over 600 students were seated. A memento was presented to all first year students as a token of welcome. The anchoring committee gave number badges to all the participants of Mr. & Ms. Fresher which made it convenient to manage the crowd during the competition.

As the programme began, there were three energetic dance performances by second year students – Vani & group, Prachi & group, Sourabh & group and two melodies sung by the first Mohit & group and Solo performance by Bhumika. To choose Mr. & Ms. Fresher, three rounds were conducted. Appx. 50 students participated in the first round which was Ramp-Walk and Intro. 21 students were shortlisted for the second round which was ‘Talent Round’. Each participant was given 2 minutes to showcase his/her talent. Finally for the third round, 3 participants qualified and the Judges, Dr. Amit Dixit & Dr. Priyanka Rajvanshi asked the questions. We also added Mr. & Ms. Spark of the evening for which 1 CR was appointed from each section to give the names to Mrs. Shikha Sahni and the judgment was based on the voting.

After that first year students appreciated the efforts of their seniors by giving a vote of thanks to 2nd year students and then 2nd year students thanked all the faculty members for guiding them and making this occasion so memorable.

At the end of the programme, all the students, faculty members and staff were called for high tea which was organized at QUANTUM i.e TOP Engineering Colleges in Uttarakhand

Quantum Organized a Day’s Workshop on “Ethical Hacking”

Quantum Global Campus, Roorkee organized a day’s work shop on “Ethical Hacking”. The department of computer science and information technology initiated this workshop in association of a leading training company from Delhi which works with a sole mission of establishing a dedicated research and development cell and bringing the findings to the benefit of budding engineers. It also works for cyber security cases for Governments and MNC’S.
The workshop was presented by Mr. Prashant, Researcher of the company, with the motto of apprising the students about Cyber security, Cyber forensics and Cyber laws, Android technology etc. He discussed and projected latest indispensable technologies by giving live examples. He said today technology has become the need of an hour which helps us to connect with all over the world instantly through its many sources like Face book, Twitter, Whats app, Google search engine, Skype and other applications. This rapidly growing technology has made most of us savvy of using computers, today we are so occupied with it, that we don’t even bother about our privacy and security.
In one of the examples, he told that he had recently solved the case of Lucknow based resident. A daughter of a Judge was an active user of face book once her face book account was hacked and then was misused for indecent acts. This case came into the notice of DSP of Lucknow police and they approached our team to apprehend them after going through nuts and bolts of this case through our ethical hacking. We succeeded in sending the culprits behind the bars.
The students of CS & IT branch remained attentive and energetic throughout the workshop and they asked lots of interesting questions on the same.
He also assured that Ethical hacking is also a crime unless it is used for authentic & security purpose .Legal hacking can only be done by government permitted organizations such as RAW, CBI, FBI etc, for the cyber security of a nation as per the cyber Laws. From the career point of view, he motivated students for choosing cyber security as a career, as it is a very emerging and growing sector of IT industry.
Mr. Satender Kumar, Department coordinator, said” The department is doing a lot for the students to fill the gap between academics and industries.”
Director General Prof. S.C Handa was the guest of honor and told that Quantum school of technology. Roorkee would continue to organize such kind of events in future for all the B.tech courses, so that students would come to know about the various latest technologies in the market and the career opportunities in those areas. In the end he appreciated the efforts of all especially the Mentors and the Trainers.

Scholarship Program for Meritorious students at Quantum
